Protecting children starts before harm occurs.

While The Children’s House provides critical services after abuse is reported, we are equally committed to preventing abuse before it happens. Through education, outreach, and community partnerships, we work to reduce risk, increase awareness, and strengthen protective behaviors for children and the adults who care for them.

Our prevention programs are offered to youth, caregivers, professionals, and community organizations across our service area. Programs are tailored to meet the needs of the audience and can be adapted by request.

Programs for Youth

We offer age-appropriate education that helps children recognize unsafe situations, build confidence, and develop skills to protect themselves.

  • NetSmartz®
Online safety and digital citizenship education for youth ages 5–17, developed by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

  • KidSmartz®
A child safety program for elementary-aged youth that teaches the 4 Rules of Personal Safety through engaging lessons and activities, also developed by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

  • Monique Burr Foundation Programs
Research-based prevention education through Monique Burr Foundation, including Child Safety Matters® for elementary students and Teen Safety Matters® for middle and high school students. These programs address bullying, digital safety, exploitation, and abuse prevention.

Programs for Caregivers, Professionals & Youth-Serving Organizations

Adults play a critical role in protecting children. Whether you are a caregiver, educator, or community professional, our trainings provide practical tools to recognize risk, respond appropriately, and help create safer environments for children.

We partner with schools, agencies, and community organizations to strengthen prevention efforts across the region.

Outreach & Community Education

Prevention works best when communities are informed and engaged. Through outreach events, presentations, and partnerships, we help equip our community to recognize concerns, report abuse, and support children and families.

If you are interested in hosting a prevention program or outreach event, we invite you to contact The Children’s House to discuss your needs.
